New Year’s Eve Times Square Ball goes LED, Energy Efficient!
In celebration of its 100th anniversary, the Times Square New Year’s Eve Ball this year is going LED … and energy efficient!
The ball is being fitted with 9,576 Philips Luxeon LEDs, replacing 600 incandescent and halogen lamps used for New Year’s Eve 2006.
Four colors will be used, red, green, blue, and white, to create a wider ranger of color, more vibrant, than in 2006.
Ironically, the LED route makes 2007’s ball energy efficient compared to previous years. The entire ball will consume the same power as a mere 10 toasters!
